SALINAS, Calif. (KION-TV) - The Salinas Planning Commission has rejected the appeal from Steerpoint Capital and Cox, Castle, and Nicholson over Dave & Buster's on Wednesday.

The firm filed an appeal against the construction of a Dave & Buster's, citing that it would increase crime around the old Sears building area and the surrounding neighborhood.

"If the headlines about the fights, the DUIs, and the shootings linked to these properties start appearing, the retailers will leave," argued Steerpoint Capital Director of Leasing & Asset Management Jason Jaffe.

Jaffe continued to state that this could lead to the property dwindling.

Ethan Conrad Properties owns the site where the former Sears stands. Leases for other businesses, such as Burlington Coat Factory and Gohan All-You-Can-Eat Buffet, have already been signed off.

Present at the planning commission was Attorney Steve Jamieson of Solomon, Saltsman, & Jamieson Law Firm, and Dave & Buster's Head of Security Jason Foshee, and Mike Grannon, Vice President and Regional Manager of Dave & Buster's in California.
