Suspect arrested for arson in connection to Santa Cruz mountains fires Tuesday evening

CORRALITOS, Calif. (KION-TV) - A man from Watsonville was arrested for felony arson in possible connection with three small fires, including a structure, in Corralitos Tuesday evening.

36-year-old Isaac Tayrien was arrested for felony arson, including setting a fire to a structure, setting fire to wildland, possessing a stolen vehicle, and resisting arrest.

Three fires were contained in the early evening off Eureka Canyon Road in Corralitos, including a small structure fire.

According to CAL FIRE CZU, reports of a structure fire were called in after 5 p.m. near Eureka Canyon Road. The structure was a fully engulfed 20 by 20 outbuilding.

The fire had extended briefly into nearby vegetation, but was controlled. Just then, reports of another structure fire up came in from up the road, with crews being split up to handle that fire.

Upon arrival at the second location, there was no structure fire, but fire extending to brush and trees. That fire was contained as a medical call was put in near the first fire, with a person checked out on scene. They were not hospitalized.

A third fire further up the hillside broke out, with crews handling that fire. Both the second and third fires were contained within two hours.

The first fire was contained at .06 acres, with the second and third contained at a combined total of about .27 acres.

Crews from CAL FIRE Santa Clara Unit, Central Fire District of Santa Cruz County, Scotts Valley Fire, and CAL FIRE BEU were called in to aid in response.
