Santa Cruz Sheriff’s Office Disposes of Improvised Explosives

The Santa Cruz County Sheriff's Office announced the disposal of more than a hundred improvised explosives and homemade fireworks. The investigation began on July 9th, deputies looking into reports of someone detonating homemade fireworks in the Tradewinds Church parking lot among other areas of the Soquel Village.

On July 13th, sheriff's deputies arrested 52 year old Brock Seals for detonating and distributing homemade fireworks, where another man was arrested for using explosives provided by Seals. He is identified as 52 year old Aaron Faurie.

Later on July 21st, deputies responded to a dirt turnout on Bonny Doon road where tens of homemade explosives had been dumped. The sheriff's office's bomb squad transported the improvised explosives to Scott beach where the area was cleared and the devices were safely destroyed.

Seals was arrested again for those dumped explosives on July 23rd. He is charged with possession and distribution of explosives in public, and possession of materials to make destructive devices without a permit.
