Point Sur celebrating its history with open house & tours
POINT SUR, Calif. (KION-TV) - California State Parks is celebrating the first Lighting of the Point Sur Lighthouse with an open house on Sunday, August 3rd from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. The open house will give locals a chance to climb the historic lighthouse, enjoy pre-electric era crafts and games, and feature costumed lighthouse keepers and their wives.
Transportation will be provided to the lighthouse for attendees. Attendance will cost you $30 per person, with a discount of $15 for kids ages 6-17.
Point Sur is also starting its yearly moonlight tours. The first one took place earlier this summer in June. The next tours will be happening at 7:15 p.m. on August 9th and 6:45 p.m. on September 7th.
The tours are also $30 a person with a discount for kids, usually lasting around 3 hours with a hike up and down the lighthouse accompanied by the views of the Pacific Ocean under moonlight. Those tours usually only take 40 people on a first-come, first-served basis.
All proceeds from these events will go towards further restoration of Point Sur's historic structures. The Lighthouse is one of the only in the nation to still have all its historic buildings on site, and State Parks is hoping to keep it that way.
