Victim identified in Carmel murder investigation

CARMEL, Calif. (KION-TV) - The identity of the victim of a suspect murder/attempted suicide has been released.

The victim was identified as 78-year-old Barbara Lynn Geisen of Carmel.

Geisen was discovered in her bedroom in the High Meadows Community of Carmel, having died of multiple stab wounds. Deputies responded after receiving a call from a man stating that he had murdered his wife.

The male suspect, whose name has yet to be released, is in the hospital with life-threatening stab wounds.

Woman dead in Carmel murder-attempted suicide investigation, man severely injured

A murder and attempted suicide investigation is underway in Carmel as one woman is found dead and a man severely injured.

According to the Monterey County Sheriff's Office, deputies responded to a call after a man called saying that he had murdered his wife.

Deputies arrived at the home on Raymond Way in the High Meadows community in Carmel.

Upon entering the home, they found the man and a 78-year-old woman in the bedroom. The woman had multiple stab wounds and was pronounced dead.

The man was also found to have stab wounds in an apparent suicide attempt and was sent to a hospital for treatment.

“This is a tragic situation that nobody ever wants to hear about happening in their community. Our deputies and detectives are working to try and determine exactly what happened. Our prayers are with all those affected by this situation," Sheriff Tina Nieto said.

The identities of both the man and the woman have not been identified.
