San Rafael Police and Fire crews help sea lion wandering along roads in the city

SAN RAFAEL, Calif. (KION-TV) -- San Rafael Police and Fire crews helped rescue a sea lion wandering around Point San Pedro Road in San Rafael on Saturday.
Police said they had help from community members who used shields, a litter basket and cardboard to safely corral and encourage the sea lion over to a park nearby.
Because it was found on Point San Pedro Road, the sea lion was named "Pointer" by people helping with the rescue.
Once at the park, Pointer decided to take advantage of some of the sprinklers for some summer fun.

The Marine Mammal Center was eventually called to take custody of Pointer.
Police said it's believed that Pointer suffered from a bacterial infection.
They also said the Marine Mammal Center is going to help rehabilitate and eventually release Pointer back to the wild.
