Construction Begins on Monterey County Covid Memorial

Monterey County Officials say that they lost 940 residents during the pandemic, now construction is beginning on a new memorial for victims of covid-19 and the frontline workers who protected their communities.

The memorial will have 5 colored panels representing the 5 districts of the county but in different shades to signify the county's diversity. There will also be solar lighting, landscaping, and a seating bench. Construction is starting at the county government building; the new memorial being set up across from the crime victims memorial along the pedestrian pathway.

The project is being funded by donations collected over the last 3 years and managed by the community foundation for Monterey County, with the total cost of the project expected to be $340,000 dollars. Construction is expected to be complete by early August.
