Prunedale burglary suspect arrested after police pursuit Sunday

PRUNEDALE, Calif. (KION-TV) - A Prunedale man was arrested as a burglary suspect after a police pursuit on June 29.

According to the Monterey County Sheriff's Department, reports were received about a suspicious person, later identified as 32-year-old Daryl James Lipska of Prunedale, in the 18000 block of Vierra Canyon Road.

Deputies learned that Lipska had allegedly broken into a home, with the homeowner having confronted Lipska. Lipska reportedly approached with a hammer, but the homeowner had wrestled it away from him.

With Lipska defeated, they left the home and headed out. California Highway Patrol helped deputies as reports came in of a white male with long hair jumping fences in the area.

Lipska had been spotted leaving the area in a stolen white van. After circling a nearby gas station on El Camino Real North, deputies tried to stop Lipska with a traffic stop.

The van soon darted away, and a pursuit followed. The van got a flat tire and was driven into a bush at the end of Reese Circle.

Lipska began to leave on foot before being arrested by deputies.

Lipska was arrested on multiple charges, including burglary and vehicle theft.

“No one should face an intruder in their home. I’m grateful for the homeowner’s courage, our deputies’ quick work, and CHP’s assistance in keeping our community safe,” said MCSO Sheriff Tina Nieto.
