Vegetation fire on Metz Road

KING CITY, Calif. (KION) -- A vegetation fire broke out at Metz Road near Topo Road around in Greenfield after a fire sparked at a pallet yard, spreading to dry vegetation.

Fire crews from Soledad, Greenfield, CTF, Fort Hunter Liggett, Calfire BEU, and King city all responded to this incident and Hollister provided helicopter support. Fire crews able to keep the fire at just 2 to 3 acres and avoided any structure damage. Metz road was shutdown by CHP for over 2 hours while crews were battling the flames.

Windy conditions in south county on Thursday leading some firefighters to say this could be the start of the peak of fire season, even as California turns to a Fire Year.
