PVUSD to vote on possible closure of Pacific Coast Charter School

WATSONVILLE, Calif. (KION-TV) -- The Pajaro Valley Unified School District is looking at the possibility of closing a charter school in their latest meeting.

PVUSD has put the resolution on their latest school board meeting citing that Pacific Coast Charter School is not meeting the standards needed to operate as a charter school.

According to the district, the school has seen a decline in student performance and an increase in chronic absenteeism. 

The district says PCCS does not meet the requirements of AB 1505.

They're now proposing to close the school by June 30 this year.

However, they add students and staff would be guaranteed to teach and learn in the same *non-classroom-based environment.

This resolution comes as PVUSD approved the layoffs of nearly 60 full-time district employees last week.

The resolution is expected to be voted on Wednesday.
