One person dead in fatal crash on Highway 1

SANTA CRUZ COUNTY, Calif. (KION) -- A man has died after an early morning crash on Highway 1 south of Scaroni Road.

According to California Highway Patrol, a 52-year-old driver was driving a Ford Ranger going north. As he was driving, a man was walking on the road.

While the circumstances are still under investigation, the pedestrian was struck, sustaining major injuries and pronounced dead at the scene.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
