Editor's Note: Updated with the name of the victim

MONTEREY COUNTY, Calif. (KION) -- A man is dead after a fatal crash on Highway 101 near Echo Valley Road early Sunday morning.

Monterey County Sheriff's Office identified the victim as 23-year-old Anthony Christian Sullivan of Oxnard.

According to the California Highway Patrol, Sullivan was driving a blue Mazda and was traveling south on US 101 around 4:04 a.m. Sunday morning. Sullivan had veered off the road crashing into the center median wall.

The driver of the Mazda did not have their seatbelt on at the time of the crash. They sustained fatal injuries and were pronounced dead at the scene.

The crash remains under investigation as CHP suspects alcohol may have been a factor.
