BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KION) -- Videos posted on social media appear to show agents from the U.S. Customs and Border Protection making different stops in Kern County, which has generated fear in the immigrant population.

The Bakersfield Police Department confirmed Tuesday with the Californian news outlet in Bakersfield that U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. (ICE) and U.S. Customs and and Border Protection. would be working in the area this week.

The agency said Bakersfield Police Department was not involved in the operations, but that they were notified that it would happen. Witnesses said at least 30 people were detained Tuesday.

Monterey County Board of Supervisor District 1 Luis Alejo spoke about how Monterey County will ensure immigrants in the county are protected.

“Monterey County will do everything possible to protect the rights of immigrants within our county. Immigrant workers should not be targeted," Alejo said. "It is important at this time that all undocumented workers know their rights if they ever find themselves in a situation where they are detained by immigration agencies."
