Rainy, Cooler
Rain returns to our area today as a cold front moves through the region. Patchy drizzle will be possible early then light to moderate rain with occasionally gusty winds can be expected from late morning into the early afternoon. Cool temperatures follow with sunshine returning on Tuesday, but stick with us for the rest of the week—which is looking rather unsettled!
AIR QUALITY:Â Good to Moderate
Today– Veterans Day: Mostly cloudy early with patchy coastal drizzle bordering on light rain in some areas. A cold front brings light to moderate rain and occasionally gusty winds through the Monterey Bay area from late morning into the early afternoon. Then, partial clearing around the bay with showers moving out of our region to the south by late afternoon. Highs in the mid-50s to mid-60s—warmest in the south. Southerly winds increase and become a bit gusty then switch to more westerly with frontal passage.
Overnight: Chance of light rain and drizzle then partly cloudy skies and patchy fog possible. Lows in the low to upper 40s coastal and 30s and 40s.
Tuesday: Patchy fog early. Then, partly cloudy with up-valley winds in the afternoon. Cool, with highs in the upper 50s to mid-60s.
*HIGH SURF ADVISORY* ...IN EFFECT FROM 6 AM TUESDAY TO 6 AM PST
WEDNESDAY...
* WHAT...Large breaking waves upwards of 14 to 15 ft.
* WHERE...Northern
Monterey Bay and Southern Monterey Bay and Big Sur Coast
Counties.
* WHEN...From 6 AM Tuesday to 6 AM PST Wednesday.
* IMPACTS...Dangerous swimming and surfing conditions and
localized beach erosion. Large waves can sweep across the beach
without warning, pulling people into the sea from rocks, jetties
and beaches. Sudden immersion in cold water can result in cold
water shock even for the most experienced swimmers. Cold water
shock can result in dramatic changes in breathing, heart rate
and blood pressure, greatly increasing the risk of drowning in
rough open waters.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Northwest facing beaches are most at risk
for large turbulent shore break and strong currents.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
Inexperienced swimmers should remain out of the water due to
dangerous surf conditions.
Extended: Temperatures remain cool into Wednesday and by evening, the next weather system arrives. It will bring a chance for (mainly) light rain into Thursday morning. Temps stay cool through the end of the week with another possible system on Friday into Saturday.
