Maryland US Rep. David Trone apologizes for using racial slur at hearing. He says it was inadvertent

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) — A Maryland congressman who is running for Senate has apologized for a racial slur that he said he uttered inadvertently during a budget hearing. Democratic Rep. David Trone says he meant to say bugaboo instead of the word he actually used, which is a slur against Black people. Trone says the slur has “a long dark terrible history” and “should never be used any time, anywhere, in any conversation.” Trone used the word to describe concerns about tax rates stopping business investment.
