Man arrested in connection to Santa Cruz rape, attempted homicide

A Hayward man was arrested after Santa Cruz police said he assaulted his former girlfriend and caused serious injury.

On Friday at around 6 p.m., police responded to Dominican Hospital for a sexual assault victim. Police said through the investigation, they identified 28-year-old Jeremy Castleberry as the suspect. The victim was his former girlfriend.

With help from the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office, Castleberry was arrested at his Hayward home. Officers said because of the violent nature of the assault, he was booked for rape and attempted homicide.
