Stolen vehicle arrest leads to discovery of illegal firearms in Monterey County

CENTRAL COAST, Calif. (KION-TV) - A traffic stop in Santa Cruz County earlier this year has led to a massive discovery of illegal firearms, ammunition, and drugs in Monterey County.

According to the California Highway Patrol, officers stopped a driver for a traffic violation in Santa Cruz County in April. It was discovered that the driver had a suspended license and was driving a stolen vehicle. Soon after, officers obtained a search warrant for the driver's home in Monterey County.

After executing the search warrant with Santa Cruz County Auto Theft Reduction and Enforcement (S.C.A.R.E.), they recovered illegal firearms, ammunition, and drugs.

CHP Santa Cruz also worked alongside the Santa Cruz County Sheriff's Office, Watsonville Police, and the Santa Cruz District Attorney's Office to execute the warrant.

The unidentified driver was arrested for multiple charges, including possession of illegal firearms.
