Santa Cruz Fire rescues young man after falling from a cliff near West Cliff Drive

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. (KION-TV) - A young man was rescued after falling from a cliff near West Cliff Drive in Santa Cruz Wednesday afternoon.

According to the Santa Cruz Fire Department, fire personnel approached the scene to find the young man on the rocks near West Cliff Drive and Auburn Avenue. No injuries were reported when he was found.

SCFD rescue swimmers were sent, locating the young man and escorting them out of the water and back onto shore.

After being examined by the rescue team, he was able to walk away and return to the care of his parents.

SCFD says to use caution near coastal cliffs. Erosion, loose ground, and strong winds can make the edges unstable. Stay back from the edge, obey posted signs, and always keep a safe distance—especially when taking in the view.
