Monterey County gives Moss Landing Soil Testing Update

The Monterey County Board of Supervisors gave the community an update on the cleanup process and tests being done in Moss Landing following the battery facility fire at Vistra's power facility. The board was presented with a report on the latest findings with soil samples. The environmental health bureau is set to review the findings in partnership with a toxicologist for a quality review of data.

Vistra energy will also be looking into a human health risk assessment of their own with samplings data, ecological reports and recommendations. The company will be collecting samples and data and have until August 11 to do so to move forward with an assessment plan.

District 2 Supervisor Glenn Church praising the county's process, saying that the county is setting an example for future disaster recovery efforts saying, "No county, no jurisdiction has experience an industrial accident of this particular one, so we are setting a template for the future and what we a doing here is really groundbreaking, really positive process."

The board of supervisors also voted to continue the proclamation of local emergency in response to the fire for another sixty days.
