California Rodeo Salinas

SALINAS, Calif. (KION-TV) - The Kiddie Kapers Parade is back this weekend in Salinas, kicking off the California Rodeo Salinas Big Week.

This year's theme is Once Upon a Rodeo, with more than 1,200 children on floats, bikes, and wagons along the parade route to the Salinas City Center on Sunday, July 13, starting at 3 p.m. at the Salinas Recreation Center.

The annual tradition will be led by this year's Grand Marshall, Jaziel Mendoza, a pediatric cancer survivor who was diagnosed with neuroblastoma in 2022.

Prizes will be awarded to different groups in eight divisions, with the first-place winners in each division winning a grand prize.

Those eight divisions are:

  • Playground Floats
  • Cowboys and Cowgirls
  • Strollers and Wagon
  • Community Groups
  • Costumed Kids & Pets
  • Dance & Drill Teams
  • Group Floats
  • Rolling Riders (skaters, scooters, bicyclists, roller skaters, and roller bladers)
