Elkhorn Rehabilitation Project begins work leading to lane closure

MONTEREY COUNTY, Calif. (KION-TV) - A traffic alert from the county of Monterey as work begins on the Elkhorn Rehabilitation Project.

The work will take place just north of Walker Valley Road to Salinas Road near Pajaro.

The county says this project will take approximately 55 working days of construction and is expected to be completed by the end of October.

Work being done includes grinding the existing pavement surface, putting in a new layer of asphalt, and placing new pavement striping and marking.

The county says work will occur during the day between the hours of 7 a.m. and 5 p.m.

Some occasional night work may also take place between 7 p.m. and 5 a.m.

Traffic control measures such as lane closures and one-lane reversible traffic control will be implemented during construction.

And people are being asked to find an alternate route.

The county says the estimated cost of construction is nearly $7 million.
